A brigantine and brig grounded with lines ashore. Inversed digital file to create b&w positive

Port bow view of a grounded unidentified brig with a brigantine next to it off its starboard side. Lines are ashore from the bows. A small ship's boat is grounded on the beach next to the brig. The yards of the brig's fore and main masts have been scandalized (an acute angle to the mast). The reverse of the calotype has a pencil annotation: '166. Brig aground, leaky'. In a letter dated 3 November 1846 to WHF Talbot from Calvert Jones, he lists the Swansea negatives and includes '166. Brig aground, leaky' [BL, LA46-123]. This is further confirmed in a letter dated 23 October 1847 to William Fox Talbot, Calvert Jones mentions this negative as having been sent to Nicolaas Henneman for printing and describes it as '166. Brig aground leakey'. [see BL, reference LA47-86] Jones had arrived back in England from his European trip in early June 1846 to sort out the afffairs of his dead uncle.
