'Reina del Mar', a streamer farewell

Streamers, large crowds, cheering and band music made the ceremony of embarking one of the highlights of a cruise. 'Reina del Mar' was built in 1956 for the Pacific Steam Navigation Company as a cargo and passenger vessel. In 1964 she was extensively refitted as a cruise liner and her former cargo holds were converted to accommodate extra passengers. She is shown setting off on one of her last voyages to South Africa on the 13 February 1975. In July the same year she was broken up in Taiwan.
