Seascape from the 'Penaglis M. Hadoulis'
Image information
Seascape from the 'Penaglis M. Hadoulis'
A rapid sketch made from the deck of the steamer, 'Penaglis M. Hadoulis'. It focused on the tonal relationship between the sea and the sky. The sea is principally painted green with short brush strokes of thick paint to indicate waves and movement. The sky is painted a pale blue and the sun is indicated behind a bank of purple cloud shown as slashes of thick paint horizontally across the image. The lemon tones indicate the sun shining on the clouds and sea and the sky is also flecked with coral pink. The sun's reflections sit on the surface of the water in the foreground.
