Seascape from the 'Penaglis M. Hadoulis'
A sketch of the sea from the 'Penaglis M. Hadoulis'. The artist has concentrated on the appearance and visual effects of waves deep at sea, particularly the play of light on the surface of the water. His technique indicates that this may have been intended as an aquatint since Everett often turned his paintings into prints. The crest of the waves has been outlined in a dark line and the shading takes the form of diagonal hatching and washes of pale colour. The horizon is marked as a thin mauve line and above is a small strip of sky. The painting has been turned into a series of designs and patterns and the method of portrayal has been the main purpose of the sketch.
