The Grand Saloon, 'Great Eastern'
'Great Eastern The Grand Saloon during storm Sept 1861. Based on a sketch by a passenger, C.F. Hayward'. This lithograph was based on a sketch drawn by a passenger on board the 'Great Eastern' during the treacherous crossing of the Atlantic in September 1861. After leaving Liverpool she ran into bad weather off south west Ireland and the rudder was snapped. Makeshift repairs eventually made it possible to return to Queenstown several days later.
