Hilt of sword, French Light Calvary type
This pattern of sword was introduced into the French navy around 1800 and has a straight stirrup hilt in gilt metal, a fluted pommel and an ebony grip. The end of the quillon (the extended crosspiece of the hilt of a sword, usually straight but sometimes curved) is decorated with a lion.
