Anchor

Scale: Unknown. A model of a Spencer's proposed anchor (1820-1822). The model is made in wood with a lead ring and is painted a uniform black. The shank is square in section with rounded edges ending in a flat and rectangular section with a large, circular fitting holding the large pivoting arms and flukes in place with a circular bolt. At the top of the shank are shoulders either side just below the lead ring. The palms are flat and triangular in shape and turn outwards at the bills. At the crown of the arm is a small lug with a hole through which a tripping rope could be attached. There is one paper label attached to the shank of the model which reads: 'WS September 1822'.
