Anchor

Scale: Unknown. A model of a Spencer's proposed anchor (1820-1822). The model is made in wood with a lead ring (partially oxidised) and is painted a uniform black. The shank is square in section with rounded edges ending in a square section at the top with shoulders either side just below the lead ring. The arms are made in a single piece and pivot from side to side and are held onto the base of the shank by a large bolt secured in position by a large bolt. The palms (one missing), which are riveted to the arms, are large and flat and almost face each other in a V-shape and resemble the shape of a spade. At the crown, where the shank passes through, is a moulded eye through which a tripping rope could be attached. There is a paper label attached to the top by a metal ring which reads: 'WS September 1822'.
