Anchor model
Scale: Unknown. Model of a stockless Hawkins patent anchor (1822). Model is made entirely from brass and consists of a shank which is rectangular in section, with two rounded faces, and tapers towards the crown where it splits in two and is drilled to receive the swivelling arms. The arms are circular in section and form a shallow U-shape and are formed into tapering points through which a flat, triangular palm is attached. The middle section of the arms has two rectangular curved lugs at right angles acting as a mechanism to restrict their movement through 90 degrees. There is a loose circular ring with a single link attached which can travel up and down the shank, whilst the square end of the shank, at the top is a swivelling bow-shackle held in place by a pin. The shank has been stamped with a date of "1822"; "R.F.Hawkins patent". "7" and on the crown "5.0.0" (possibly the weight).
