Component model; Sectional model

Scale: Unknown. Model showing a design for connecting iron beams to the sides of wooden ships, as proposed by Mr G. Turner, Master Shipwright at Woolwich Dockyard, in 1862. The model has been made entirely in wood, with the wooden hull sections and connecting frame stained and varnished a uniformed mid-brown colour, and the iron components painted black. A square iron collar is fastened around the frame section, overlapped and held in position with four square-headed bolts. The iron knee is attached to the inboard planking using six round-headed bolts. The main components of the iron beam have been riveted together. At the bottom of the frame section, in the centre of the face, a metal spike is protruding suggesting that the model was once mounted to a baseboard. The model has been stamped twice 'H23'.
