HMS 'Mersey' (1885)
Scale: 1:48. Shipbuilders half block of HMS 'Mersey' (1885), a 2nd class cruiser. The model is made in wood with some metal fittings. The hull below the waterline is finished in a copper-brown colour and fitted with a rudder at the stern with a round bow. The upperworks to deck level are painted black. There are a number of features painted on to the black part of the hull including: portholes, scuttles, loading doors and apertures, all picked out in red and white paint. There are two large pairs of single barreled casement guns amidships and two smaller at bow and stern. There is a single deck with a quarterdeck and forecastle above which are painted a creamy-white colour. Fixtures and fittings include: a pair of main armament guns with shields painted black , a bridge or conning tower painted grey, a pair of stump masts in natural wood and varnished, a truncated funnel painted light brown-yellow mounted on a grey-brown superstructure and seven deck hatches / skylights painted the same colour. The model is mounted on a wooden backboard painted a creamy-white, with a stained and varnished mahogany edging. At the bow, on a metal plaque painted black 'MERSEY'.
