HMS 'Monarch' (1868)

Scale: 1:48. A half block model of the port side of the turret ship HMS 'Monarch' (1868), made entirely in wood and painted dark brown below the waterline, a narrow white stripe above and black above the waterline. Hull details include a ram bow, rows of square portholes, and a well for the propeller which is either missing or was not originally fitted. Other fittings include stump bowsprit, foremast, mainmast and mizzen mast, cream-painted superstructure and a single funnel, also painted cream. The model is displayed on a backboard painted off-white with a mahogany-stained frame with bevelled edge. On plaque '226 Monarch-battleship-1868. A high-freeboard sea-going turret ship. Built at Chatham Re-Engined 1892. Became Guardship at Simon's Bay in 1897. Renamed Simoon in 1904 and sold in 1905. Original Armament: - 4 12-in. (25 Ton) and 3 7 in. M.L.R. Two 7-in. soon replaced by 9 in. Dimensions: - Length 330 ft. Beam 57 ft. 6in. Displacement 8320 Tons. Speed 14 1/2 Knots.'.
