HMS 'Royal Oak' (1862); Warship; Armoured wooden broadside warship

Scale: Unknown. A model depicting the shot-proof conning or pilot house on the armoured wooden broadside warship HMS 'Royal Oak' (1862). The model is made entirely in wood and is a flattened cylinder in shape. The interior cylinder and top surface have been grained, and the exterior painted dark olive green with a white horizontal line around the centre, and fine red vertical lines in a stylised brickwork fashion. The model has two paper labels applied to it marked "841" and hand-written, "Conning or pilot house "Royal Oak. Inv: 1920-338". The model is mounted on a grained baseboard, underneath which two paper labels have been applied marked "D.5" and hand-written, "Rec'd 4th Dec 1863. D.S. 6725 of 1862. "Royal Oak" model of turret. Shewing model of armoured plating".
