House flag, Regent Petroleum Tankship Co. Ltd
The house flag of the Regent Petroleum Tankship Co. Ltd, London. A white flag with a disc divided into red over blue and a blue-edged white border in the centre. The name 'REGENT' is in blue letters on a white background across the centre. The flag is made of a wool and synthetic fibre bunting. It has a cotton hoist and is machine sewn. The design is printed. A rope and two Inglefield clips are attached.
The Regent Oil Company was formed in the United Kingdom in 1947 after a merger between Texaco Petroleum Products and the Trinidad Leaseholds. Texaco was an American petroleum company that had been operating in the United Kingdom since 1916, and Trinidad Leaseholds was formed in 1913 to operate in the West Indies (specifically, Trinidad). During the 1950s, Regent began to expand its operations, including selling branded petrol in the UK as well as shipping and refining ventures abroad. They operated large tankers using ports such as Gloucester.
