Jack of Guinea
There was a sizeable African population in Britain in the 18th century. While some were free citizens, many others had arrived in Britain to be the domestic servants of slave-holding plantation owners. This print, and the accompanying poem by Thomas John Dibdin (1771-1841), illustrates the potential life story of one of those African servants, whose existence and experiences were determined by the people and social forces that he encountered in the Atlantic world.

Due to the coronovirus pandemic and Brexit situation, current shipping times may be longer, particularly for destinations outside the UK.
Delivery to the UK is £10 for a single framed print.
