Colonel Charles Daniel de Meuron (1738-1806) assembled a celebrated cabinet of curiosities (which included items from Cook's voyages) which he bequeathed to the city of Neuchatel, Switzerland, thereby laying the foundations for the town's museums (except the Fine arts museum).
