Mary Augusta Phipps Hornby
An oval photographic miniature. A head portrait photograph of Mary Augusta Phipps Hornby with a pail light cloth lightly wrapped around her neck and covering most of her hair like a shawl. She married Commander Frederick Wilbraham Egerton at Malta in 1879 while he was serving as acting Captain of the ironclad turret ship HMS Rupert (1872). Her father Vice Admiral Geoffrey Thomas Phipps Hornby was Commander-in-Chief of the Mediterranean Station during this period and used the despatch vessel HMS Salamis (1863) during the Russo-Turkish War (1877-78) when it was under the command of Frederick Egerton.
