Portrait of the 'Charles', 8 guns, built in 1675 and wrecked in 1678

The English ketch-rigged (?) yacht 'Charles', shown from abaft the starboard beam, and depicting four wreathed ports forward, a narrow light, with a sliding scuttle, in the cabin below the half-deck and a single square leaded light on the quarter. Men are shown on board, with the gaff mainsail and mast partly sketched in and the stern decoration shown in detail. The central of three lanterns is apparently bracketed into what is presumably the central royal arms or crest in a crowned cartouche. PAH4115 is a related port beam view and PAG6230 is another from off the port quarter.
