Study of the Battle of Jutland, 31st May 1916: HMS 'Lion' leading battle-cruisers past the wreck of 'Invincible', about 18.40

Signed by artist, lower right. This shows the position at about 18.40 on 31st May 1916 with the battle-cruisers 'Lion', 'Princess Royal', 'Tiger' and 'New Zealand' from off the port bow as they pass in line ahead of the sinking battle-cruiser 'Invincible', which had blown up at 18.32. 'Lion' was Beatty's flagship and the division is firing to starboard over the wreck of 'Invincible' , whose separated bow and stern, as shown here, were still above water at 18.57 when the battleships of the 3rd and 4th Divisions of the Grand Fleet also passed either side of her.
