This photograph shows Sir Geoffrey Callendar (far left), Sir James Caird and the first trustees of the Museum, with the Royal party consisting of King George VI, his mother Queen Mary, his wife Queen Elizabeth and their daughter, the present Queen. Sir James Caird was the Museum's first and most generous benefactor, and Callendar was the Museum's first Director.
