Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson, 1st Viscount Nelson (1758-1805)
A long bust-length portrait to left in vice-admiral's undress uniform, 1795-1812, wearing a hat. It was painted by the artist at Great Yarmouth in 1801, where Nelson was anchored offshore in the 'St George' as second-in-command to Sir Hyde Parker, before their departure for the Baltic and the ensuing Battle of Copenhagen. Nelson sat for the portrait between 6 and 11 March, at the Wrestlers Inn, and this is probably the working sketch for the finished portrait that hangs in Great Yarmouth Town Hall.
