The English and Spanish fleets between Portland Bill and the Isle of Wight on 2 - 3 August 1588
Scale: [ca. 1:300 000 (bar)]
One of twelve sheets (title page, one overview chart and ten local charts) boxed with their original vellum binding.
These charts were based on Lord Howard's account of the Spanish Armada's attempt to invade England in 1588. This plate illustrates the continuation of the battle off Portland Bill and takes the story forward to 3 August, when the English fleet was re-formed into four squadrons.
Contains the coats of arms of Queen Elizabeth and Lord Howard. The prevailing wind direction is indicated next to the compass rose. The number 6 is in the lower right corner.
