'Cutty Sark' (1869)

Watercolour of 'Cutty Sark', the only surviving British tea clipper. She was launched in 1869 and took part in the annual tea race from China to London. Tea represented one of the main consumable goods brought to Britain from the East of the British Empire - The East Indies. The tea trade expanded rapidly during the period 1750-1900.
