Hut and Mt. Erebus photographed by moonlight
Hut and Mt. Erebus photographed by moonlight
The expedition hut at Cape Evans looking north east towards the volcano Mount Erebus, which has a steam-cloud above it. To the left (north side) of the hut is the stable built for the pony's. It was made from bales of fodder with a tarpaulin roof over rafters. The entrance of the hut is in front of the camera with the additional lean-to on the left that acted as an air lock into the main hut. Packing cases are stacked in piles semi-submerged under snow. A large number of ski poles and skis have been dug vertically into the snow on the hut's right.
