The stern of a baggala

The stern of a fine baggala, an older type than the boom and redolent of Portuguese influence in the sixteenth century. Such baggalas were characteristic of the ancient post of Sur in eastern Oman, and of some of the Iranian ports in the Gulf. Although the boom was now the typical cargo-carrier of Kuwait, there were still three baggalas based there too.
