100-gun three-decker

Full hull model of a 100 gun three-decker ship of the line. Prisoner of war work. Model of decked and rigged with sails set. One of a set of five models (SLR0667, SLR0669-SLR0672) made entirely from wood including sails and rigging.

A contemporary full hull 'wood shaving' model of a three-decker ship of the line (circa 1800) One of a group of five miniature models thought to have been made by French prisoners of war. These extremely delicate and fragile models consist of a hull carved from a solid piece of wood, normally box, apple or pear, and are complete with a variety of deck fittings. They are fully rigged with most standing and running rigging including the sails; the whole of which are made from very thin shavings of wood, probably box. Other models represented in the group include a cutter, two-masted topsail schooner, a frigate and an armed brig.
