A full hull model of a Yarmouth drifter (1880)
Scale: 1:24. Made entirely in wood with wood, metal and organic material fittings and painted in realistic colours. The hull is carvel-built, transom-sterned, and fitted with a pair of bilge keels. It is painted pink-brown below the waterline, black above, including the strake, with a broad cream stripe running the entire length of the hull and a cream triangular area at the bow. The vessel is depicted with the single mast partly down, supported by a deck-mounted crutch, and with the bowsprit run in. Two furled sails are shown rigged to the mast with a further two sails stowed on the port and starboard stern quarters. Deck fittings include a large hand-operated capstan, with four handles and with foot grips secured to the deck, whilst along the gunwales are several large metal irons in which are kept spare spars and oars. On either side of the mainmast are the pens with ramps for sorting the catch. On port and starboard bows 'YH6'. The model is mounted on a pair of shaped wooden crutches fixed to a rectangular baseboard, painted black overall.
