A Tainted Eclipse
This image we see a bright vibrant orange moon. The photographer described how the image was not what was originally desired. “After driving hours to clear skies, I setup all my gear and waited for the Moon to rise, aiming to capture an uninterrupted sequence of images to animate the eclipse from start to finish. At the start of totality, I slewed to a bright star, placed a Bahtinov mask on the scope and refocused then quickly re-framed the Moon and got the sequence running again. It was half an hour before I realised the mask was still on the scope and I had ruined the pivotal period of the eclipse. I was devastated.” Born digital photograph entitled 'A Tainted Eclipse' by Phil Hart taken on 8 October 2014 on Lake Boga, Victoria, Australia. Taken with Takahashi FS-102 telescope, a AZ EQ6 mount, an 1.4 x extender telescope lens and a Canon 6D camera with 1300mm f/13 lens with ISO of 400 and an eight-second exposure. Highly Commended in Our Moon category of Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2015.
