A True and Exact Prospect of the Famous Citty of London, from SMarie Overs Steeple in Southwarke in its flourishing condition before the Fire

The Great Fire of London began on Sunday morning, 2 September 1666, and destroyed an area of 1.5 miles by 0.5 miles. 373 acres inside the city walls and 63 acres outside, 87 churches and 13,200 houses were destroyed. Only 6 people are definitely known to have been killed but the actual death toll was probably much higher. The fire started in the house and shop of Thomas Farynor, baker to Charles II in Pudding Lane, who forgot to put out the fire in his oven on the previous night. Object number PAH9901.
