A view of Greenwich Hospital
No.16 in a Boydell series, see also PAH3284 and PAH2196. A view of the Hospital as completed in 1751, looking towards Deptford, with boats and shipping in the river. The large vessel in the foreground is apparently a royal yacht, the one beyond a bomb-ketch, also used as yachts, especially for carrying the royal baggage. Greenwich was at this period the usual station for royal yachts being used by the Crown and other VIPs, out of and into London. A larger warship is at anchor of Deptford in the distance. The in-depth perspective is slightly aerial and greatly 'stretched'.
