An episode in the Four Days' Battle, 1-4 June 1666
During the 1660s, some years before he and his son moved to England in 1672-73, Van de Velde worked as a draughtsman for the Dutch government. He was therefore present at the Four Days' battle where this rapid drawing may have been begun.
