Anchor

Scale: Unknown. A model of a safety anchor spring dated 1867. The model is made in brass apart from two cords tied to either end. The model consists of a diamond-shaped plate with rounded corners under which is attached, in the centre, a large ring. Through the ring is tied a cord made up of green, red, gold, and brown fibres which is tied off just below the ring. Mounted on each end of the plate are two tall brass bars that, near the top, bend inwards at an angle of forty five degrees so that they meet at a rounded apex. Just below the bends in the bars is a horizontal bar linking them together. Set between the plate and horizontal bar are six flat cylinders, one above the other, with five thin brass discs separating them. Holding the stack of cylinders and discs together is an oval plate held on top of the stack by a hexagonal nut which is directly underneath the horizontal bar. Attached to the top part of the frame is a second length of cord, identical in type, size, and colour to the length attached to the ring.
