Anchor model

Scale: Unknown. A model of a Porter's patent anchor (1842). The model is made entirely from an unknown metal and plated possibly with a zinc alloy. The shank is square in section through which is a single crescent shaped arm which pivots on a large fidded bolt, held in place by a pin and chain. The upward facing palms are flat and teardrop shaped and include a small barb on the underside of the arm at its widest point. Just above the arms is a pair of D-shaped gravity shackles which swivel on a bolt. The stock is circular in section, tapering towards its ends, finishing with a sphere at one end and a flat button shape at the other which is bent 90 degrees parallel to the shank. It is fidded with a metal wedge on a small chain allowing it to be un-shipped and stowed flat aboard ship. At the top of the shank is a swivelling bow shackle held in place by a pin.
