Anchor model

Scale: Unknown. A proposal model which depicts a temporary anchor (1843) made from a broken bower anchor. The model is made almost entirely from wood apart from the three bow shackles which are formed from lead. The two small anchors (stream and kedge) have been lashed to the shank of the bower anchor which has snapped just above the crown to create a temporary repair. The wooden stock of the kedge anchor is also lashed to the shank whilst the wooden stock of the stream anchor supports the larger wooden stock of the broken bower anchor. There are a number of printed paper labels annotating the various constituent parts that read: 'BOWER ANCHOR', 'STREAM ANCHOR', 'EDGE ANCHOR', 'Stock of Kedge', and 'A TEMPORARY ANCHOR. Made from a broken BOWER (STREAM and KEDGE ANCHORS) by Mr. JONATHAN AYLEN, Master of H.M.SHIP VICTORY'.
