Anchor model

Scale: Unknown. A model of the shank of a common anchor being manufactured, 1829, made entirely in iron. The model. shows a tight, cylindrical, tapering bundle of irregularly forged and hammered iron bars, bound together by four iron hoops, one each positioned at either end of the bundle, one close to the middle of the bundle and the fourth between the middle hoop and the tapered end. The bars are darkened, possibly once painted black, while the hoops are a brighter finish. Projecting from centre of the tapered end of the bundle is a thicker bar, roughly square in section that terminates with a mushroom-shaped button. The middle of this piece of bar bulges slightly to accommodate two round apertures that pass through the bar above, and also at right angles, to one another.
