Anchor model - section of shank

Scale: Unknown. A model showing the method of constructing the shank of an anchor, made entirely in steel. The shank is virtually circular in section apart from two flat areas that run the length of the shank on opposite sides of the model. On one of these flat faces is inscribed "6". The body of the shank is shown formed with the top section cut off at a 45 degree angle. The bottom of the shank is bulbous in shape and has one wide, diagonal, flat-bottomed groove similar to a cross halving joint in carpentry. This groove is immediately below the inscribed "6". On the opposite side of the groove, are two diagonal notches and two longitudinal notches connecting the ends of the diagonal grooves that together form a parallelogram marking out an identical groove or joint. Attached to the bottom of the shank is a roughly forged and welded rod of metal. The rod is roughly square in section and is curved slightly so that its axis is in line with that of the shank. The rod has a hole in it approximately halfway along its length, and a mushroom-shaped knob of metal at the end. One face of the rod is inscribed "5".Original size: 408 mm x 28 mm
