Anchor model - two piece shank
Scale: Unknown. A model of a proposed common anchor, made entirely in iron, date unknown. The surface is heavily pitted and oxidised and there appears to be evidence that the model was once painted black. The shank is rectangular in section and is made from three longitudinal lengths of iron, the middle length slightly deeper than the outside two lengths, all bound together by three iron hoops. The topmost hoop, secured above the stock, has two small holes either side of it. The stock is made from two lengths of identically-shaped iron, placed one above the other and held together by two broad oval rings placed on either end of the stock, which are held in place by two pins. The crown, arms and flukes are cast in a single piece of iron, the whole secured to the shank by a round-headed rivet that stands proud on the accepting side. Just beneath the rivet head is a washer that secures a short length of chain. An identical length of chain encircles the shank at its base at the point it enters the crown. The arms are short and the flukes are conventionally-shaped.
