Anchor - similar to Hawkins 1822

Scale: Unknown. A model of an unidentified stockless anchor, possibly early 19th century. The model is made entirely in iron and painted black which has eroded in places to reveal bare patches of oxidised metal. The shank is rectangular in section with an integrated ring at the top. The bottom of the shank is forked and between the forks is mounted a pair of swivelling, small, inverted arms, cast in one piece. At the bottom of this casting, at the crown of the anchor, is a ring. The arms proper also swivel on the shank forks, passing through them and the smaller arms. The large arms extend upwards, terminating in small arrow-shaped flukes. The large and small arms can be swivelled independently of one another. Along one side of the shank is painted in white "1890". The remains of a paper label can be found on one of the short edges of the shank, close to the fork.
