Astrolabe: dismounted obverse
This is a poorly engraved 19th century Iranian astrolabe. The throne is unconvincingly decorated with floral motifs reminiscent of Hajji Ali. The mater and rete are of particularly crude design. There are five plates, two of copper and three of brass, covering various latitudes between 20├òÔòØ and 40├òÔòØ. Despite the poor quality of the instrument in general, the markings on the plates are reasonably accurate. However, the markings on the back of the astrolabe and on the alidade are inaccurate and of a very low standard.
