Astronomical compendium for latitudes 37˚-53˚ north
This compendium consists of a lunar volvelle, a volvelle for converting common hours to Italian hours, a horizontal dial, a compass, a table of latitudes and a wind-ring. The lid and the base hinge out from the main part of the instrument at opposite ends. Outside of the lid is a lunar volvelle with a fixed disc and a rotatable disc. Inside the lid is a volvelle, made for a latitude of 49˚ north (that of Nuremberg or Paris), for showing the time of sunset. It also doubles as a means of converting between common hours and Italian hours. In the centre of the instrument, the horizontal dial and the compass are missing. On the inside of the base is a table of latitudes in two columns for places in Europe.
