Augsburg dial for latitudes 6-90 north. Standard dial (see related terms) except for the following details: The dial-plate is gilt-brass, the compass is silver and the magnetic variation is marked at 16 West of north. The signature 'Johann Martin a Augsburg 48' is engraved round the compass, along with the names of two French cities and their latitudes. The latitude arc is silver and divided -9. The hour ring consists of a thin silver ring with a silver band set inside it. The obverse side of the ring is engraved with a geometric design, the outer rim is engraved with a pointing hand to mark the latitude on the latitude arc and the inside of the band is numbered 3-12, 1-9. The gnomon and its support are gilt-brass.
