'Baden' (Ge, 1915)

Scale: 1:100. Builder's full hull model of the German Dreadnought-battleship 'Baden' (1915). The model is decked, equipped and rigged. Built by F. Schichau in Danzig, 'Baden' measured 623 feet in length by 99 feet in the beam.

The last German battleship to be completed during the First World War, SMS 'Baden' never saw action. It was the flagship of the High Sea Fleet until 1918, when it was interned at Scapa Flow as a substitute for the battle-cruiser 'von Mackensen' which had not been completed. With the rest of the principal German warships at Scapa, including its sister ship SMS 'Bayern', 'Baden' was scuttled in 1919. However, it was the first to be raised later, after which it was used as a target ship until it was sunk in 1921.

This model was transferred to the Museum from the Naval War Trophies Committee in the mid-1940s.
