Enamelled metal badge surmounted by a gold-coloured crown. The centre of the badge is decorated with a depiction of the house flag of the Yeoward Line, Liverpool. The flag motif is surrounded by a blue belt and buckle motif, which is inscribed with the name 'SS AVOCETA'. 'SS Avoceta' was built in 1923, and was sunk by a submarine in 1941. The grandparents of the donor, Mr and Mrs Thomas Tomlinson, acquired the badge on a cruise to the Canaries in 1928.
