'Bittern', starboard stern quarter
Scale: 1:12. Contemporary full hull model of the East Coast beach yawl 'Bittern' (1890). The model is equipped with an anchor, two boat hooks and is rigged with the sails set. These long, fast boats were operated and owned by companies of 10 to 30 beachmen along the Norfolk and Suffolk coasts. Mainly employed for salvage work and pilotage, they were also occasionally used for landing cargo from ships moored offshore as well as lifesaving.
