Bone china plate

Bone china plate printed with a full-colour reproduction of Abraham Storck's painting of the Four Days Battle of June 1666. The cobalt blue border is decorated with gold stars and a formalised rope design with insets of anchors. Britannia is shown at the top of the picture in the centre. The back is printed with the National Maritime Museum's three anchor crest and the inscription: 'THE MARITIME ENGLAND PLATES No. 3. THE FOUR DAYS BATTLE JUNE 1666. This plate depicts the Dutch fleet of de Ruyter engaging the English squadron commanded by the Duke of Albemarle. Produced with the approval of the National Maritime Museum, this edition is limited to two thousand plates of which this is number 1157.' The plate is in a red fitted box with the maker's name printed on the reverse.
