Fanshawe's viewpoint appears to be inside the outer-reef island of Motu Pitiaau, of which an inward spur appears on the right, and looking into a bay across the isthmus from the larger Pofai Bay on the west side. One of a group of seven Society Island studies (PAI4616 - PAI4627) made while Fanshawe commanded 'Daphne' in the Pacific, October 1848 - 1852: three are of Bora Bora (PAI4625 - PAI4627).
