Boring machine model
Scale: Unknown. A model of a boring machine made in metal with a wooden base and brass and steel working components. There is a piece of wood from which the block is to be made which has been cut to the proper size by a sawing machine. Two drills work in axes at right angles to each other, one drill makes the hole for the pin on which the sheaves of the block run, and the other drills one or more holes for the insertion of the tool or tools of the mortising machine. The two levers that operate the horizontal position of the drills each have turned wooden handles. The beds on which the drills slide are flat brass slabs. Two blocks are depicted, one of which is shown being drilled, the other is shown finished for demonstration purposes. The machine is mounted on a platform supported by four architectural brass columns. The square mahogany baseboard has bevelled edges and a small lozenge-shaped hole at the centre. On the baseboard: 'A' and 'No 41 Div B Class 14'.
