'Britannia' (1893), starboard stern quarter deck detail

Scale: 1:24. Full hull model of the 'Britannia' (1893), a cutter rigged yacht. Made in wood with metal fittings. The hull is copper plated with individual plates showing below the waterline and a painted gloss black surface above the waterline which has a narrow gold strip running the entire length of the hull. The hull has no keel and the bow is extremely raked. The rudder is copper plated and the stern is very flat. The deck, deck fittings, mast, and spars are all unpainted. The deck has been made from individually laid planks and has wooden deck fittings which include six skylights or varying sizes, and a companion hatch cover, all of which are stained a darker colour than the deck itself. There is a bowsprit and a single mast which has a topmast and two boons. There are a number of metal fittings on deck that include the housing for the bowsprit, a capstan, and the tiller. The model is displayed on five keel blocks and six props that have been wedged into a wooden, rectangular baseboard which has been painted dark blue. There is a plaque inscribed: 'HMY Britannia 1893 Designed by G.L. Watson model made by John Phillips'.
