British & North American Royal Mail steam ship 'Persia' (1855)
1278 x 745 mm
David Kirkaldy was chief draughtsman at the shipbuilding firm of Robert Napier & Sons Ltd, Glasgow. His plan for the 'Persia', the first iron-hulled vessel built for Cunard, was the only engineering drawing to be exhibited at the Royal Academy. 'Persia' took the Blue Riband for the fastest sea crossing of the Atlantic in July 1856, a record she held until 1862.
