Cable Compressor
Scale: Unknown. A working model of a compressor for a chain anchor cable illustrating the standard pattern of 1835. It is made almost entirely of wood, most of which has been stained and lightly polished with a matt finish. The main body of the compressor resembles that of an open rectangular box with a raised upper edge which supports a pivoting grooved flap through which the cable passes and is eventually stopped. There is a roller fitted at one end in the shape of an hour glass, whilst at the other end is a large overarching handle which raises a bar inside to lift the anchor chain so as to trap it in the grooved flap.
